Now BA, that can't be healthy.
Black Ace: It is!
Karmi: Don't mind her. She can practicaly live on coffee all her life.
That reminds me of another story I wrote (
"Get Up!"):
“Humph!” she crossed her arms. “He’s more of an extorter, that’s what he is! I don’t like that attitude of his. By the way, where’d that badger in the cape go anyway?”
“He woke up quite early this morning," Rampo answered. "Strange fellow, him. He refused to eat anything but drink black coffee. Why are you asking, Miss Sachiko?”
“Oh, nothing. I just wanna say something in his face,” she teased, making a fist.
“You’ll find him on the front yard moving his car. It rained last night and those eight cars your father own took up all the room in the garage. We had no choice but to keep it under the canopy.”
Eight cars!? I don't remember putting that in... And then:
“I was up all night wondering why your father didn’t agree to letting you take the burglary all by yourself. I could see that you’re more than just a pretty face. You can pull it off all on your own. So tell me, why didn’t he?”
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Sachiko asked, slightly offended. “That I’m incapable?”
“Not at all, Miss,” Black Ace responded, a bit overwhelmed at her reaction.
“If you must know, if you hadn’t arrived, maybe he could’ve let me be in control for once. Let me ask you something, Mr. Black Ace. Why
did you take the job in the first place? Do you even care at all for my father’s concerns?”
“Of course I don’t!” Black Ace belligerently replied. “In fact, I don’t care about people, just their money. But then, who am I to complain? Ah, the cruel irony of the world!”
“THAT’S ENOUGH, YOU DEVIL!” she shouted, slapping Black Ace in the face. “LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! YOU ARE NOT TO GET IN MY WAY! I’LL DO MY PART AND YOU DO YOURS! YOU’RE NOT TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO! LET’S JUST DO THIS JOB AND GET IT OVER WITH! I DON’T EVER WANT YOU NEAR ME AFTER THAT!”
Jiro, the dog, shocked by his owner’s outburst, hid under the car.
“Of course,” Black Ace calmly grinned.
Sachiko, in utter loathing, turned her back and started going back inside.
“You know,” Black Ace said, “I’m sure you have a problem concerning your father. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have faith in you.”
Sachiko paused to listen to Black Ace’s words.
“But I know you’re not like your father, Miss Sachiko,” she added. “I’m sure you’re a much better person than him. Maybe that’s why you’re always so unhappy. I’ve never seen you smile at all.”
“That’s none of your business,” Sachiko gave in return.
She slammed the doors shut. Black Ace rubbed her hand over her cheek.
“Maybe I overdid it a little
too much,” she sighed. “She’s pretty strong, though. That actually hurt,” she whistled.
That was crappy. I'm surprised I wrote this...
