Ok, to sum up quickly: ...*deep breath* I have to write an essay comparing Frankenstein to another text about creation of life... So, naturally, I picked Black Jack, with a focus on the creation of Pinoco (or the 'salvaging of Pinoco's organs' to be more precise)... Which I happen to know next to nothing about because I've only seen up to ep. 34 of the tv show and I cannot read Japanese - ..Yeh, so can anyone help me, please *puppy eyes*. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could take the time to quickly tap out any details they know concerning the creation of Pinoco.. or any links they have that would help me with this. Arigato gozaimapoopa!!

*wears glasses*
Well, actually, what happened to Pinoko is half real and half fictional.
She's a Teratogenous Cystoma. Mouthful, eh? It's more widely known as a "teratoma". You can search more about it on Wikipedia. You can even see it in pop culture appearing in some live-action TV shows.
Anyway, back to the teratoma, it's actually a tumor formed from a condition wherein a pair of developing twins is involved. One ends up inside the other, in simplest terms. In real life, this condition really exists, however, the twin trapped inside, which is Pinoko, is already dead. But then, we wouldn't have the good doctor's "darling" assistant if Tezuka stuck by the book, would we?
Basically, BJ took the tumor out with its organs intact and put it in some tank filled with a certain liquid to keep it alive. A day after, I think, he arranged the organs into a plastic exo-skeleton to form Pinoko's body.
*takes glasses off*
I'm not sure if everyone agrees with my info, though. But it is similar to Frankenstein, isn't it? Duh! Look at Pinochio! Another story of creation of life! Man, I sure wish I had your homework!

Teratomas are disgusting. They often look like giant fleshy third legs on people. Just google it in images if you don't believe me. They can also be known to contain organ tissue, teeth, hair, etc.
Mmm, Karmi pretty much cleared it up. I just added some useless trivia. :> Good luck!

Aw!~ Well, okay!
I downloaded this for 45 minutes and when I opened it, I was like, "That's it? Only 19 pages?"
Yeah, I forgot BJ manga only had 20 pages. It's quite diferent from the anime. All the cute parts were just added. Plus, it looked creepier...

Thankyou!! I'll be sure to use all that info in my essay... and I can use the pictures for reference. I've used Black Jack as an alternative text before in English and recieved bonus marks for individuality lol.. My teacher actually said she really wanted me to use BJ again. Pfft, any excuse'll do to make my homework interesting. Thanks once again for all ur help! btw, are there any other bits of BJ manga translated and download-able anywhere? I've been trying like mad to find the 2 viz ones online, but thats proving alot harder than i thought it would be. Why is it that they translated it into Spanish, Italian and French and not English? *sigh*

I haven't seen it but Coffee and War says she has downloadable goodies in her website, The Southern Cape. Care to check it out?
Lucky! See? Even your teacher likes BJ! Let's hear it for BJ! *waves foam finger*

You can find a hard copy of this particular story in one of the VIZ translated BJ mangas somewhere out there. I saw that my library had one like 2 years ago and borrowed it, and this particular story was in there. I forgot whether it was volume 1 or volume 2. The one in the zip file is translated from a Chinese version. Sadly I don't have this one. I have copies of the other volumes though. Just 4 of them though, but still <3 I'm hoping to get more eventually, but I'm not sure where to buy them in Taiwan.
