Ah~ You guys might be wondering what I mean. This thread includes some of the most useless, questionable or senseless things that BJ has ever done. What exactly? Here's my greatest example: Wilderness EpidemicBJ ate grass. Useless. Humans can't digest grass! Even cows and grazing animals can't! They have a certain bacteria in their gastrointestinal tracts that allow them to break it down. It's actually the bacteria, and not the cows, that do the digesting. Meanwhile, humans eat fruits and vegetables to absorb the nutrients but the plants themselves aren't digested. They are excreted out of the body. Where am I going with all of this? That echinococcus bacteria-thing isn't contagious like we first assumed. He cleared that up already. So, where did he get it? Where else? From the grass! How did the grass get it? From the dingoes! In other words, BJ ate a bit of dingo poo. He sealed his own fate. It's his fault he got the echinococcus in the first place! So much for curing your hunger! He could've just stuck with the puddles but who knows? They may also have dingo poo on it, too...

Well the sicknesses in BJ aren't always correct. Many are just made up and so that bacteria is contagous I think. Where did he say it wasn't? They just found it spreading by the dingoes and I guessed he got it from touching the dead people in that farmhouse.
He didn't ate grass by the way. He ate vegetables...well...not really but it was something like cauliflower (which I doubt it grows in the desert, but oh well). Okay I don't know what he did in the anime lol I hope for him it wasn't grass XD

Echinococcus exists.
In the anime it was grass, I believe. I saw it. He was cooking grass under a little fire. Animax also dubbed it as grass.
You can't get a parasite from touching people. It has to get inside of you somehow. I have a micrbiology book here and I've looked over how a parasite can possibly invade an organism to make it its host. Ingestion is the most probable cause. Others burrow into you.

Why did he eat grass? I thought it was vegetables.

He said, "I cure my hunger with the grass."
It was the only thing around anyway. I mean, did you see vegetable growing there? I didn't for all the five times I watched the episode.

You can't get a parasite from touching people. Yes but in BJ this is totaly unrelevant. It's a new mutated whatever one - he really got it from the dead people there, I just read the story again yesterday. There are many things in BJ that are made up or are depicted to be far worse (or less worse) then the original sickness. It's just for the drama. He operates for example a lot on bacteria stuff, which one should cure with medicaments, not operating. He also cures cancer by operation, which we all know is impossible. But to be medical accurate isn't really the point in BJ. So you shouldn't see it that...hard. ^^ Well it surely wasn't grass in the manga, he just ate some wild grown...vegetables lol. But I looked at the episode again and yes...it looks like grass. lol Poor (or stupid?) BJ. By the way the episode you mean is called "Dingo", not cholera Scare. (wich would be episode...25 or so?)

...now that's an interesting take on it XD Though my good friend showed me the manga story (Viz translation) for Dingo, and I'm rereading it right now. I'm directly quoting Black Jack here, "A new mutation must be infecting humans, creating the red spots and killing off the entire Rayard family."
Not to say that Black Jack was ever 100% medically accurate XD But honestly, I wouldn't take it all too seriously since it's a work of fiction. (LOLZ LET'S CURE TB WITH AN OPERATION)

Oh, sorry! ^^; Wrong title! Dingo/Wilderness Epidemic/A Contagious Diease in the Wild. Better change that now.
I still say eating grass was dumb!
