Seems like they almost eliminated that, looking at the visuals. But i'm so excited!!! This year!!! And it's Freddie Highmore! I wonder why i never heard of this before AND I SAW TEZUKA-SENSEI IN THE TRAILER TOO!

Now that I watched it...it's pretty blah. They changed the whole concept of Tobio's DEATH what the heck!? And all the extra characters confuse me. Were they in the original manga? I don't think so...I've never read the manga. And Hamegg is FAT.
The movie looks kinda pretty but it's way too Americanized. oAo I don't really like it.

Sadly, we Americans tend to do that to lovely stuff. We butcher it until it's minced meat.
I actually didn't get the chance to see this...I was suppose to, but I forgot /:

I have heard from people that the movie bombed in Japan. ^^; What with the poor renditions of video games and anime live action movies being churned out they probably had a gut feeling this movie, as caelie would put it, is a butchered version of their beloved robot boy. It's true, it bombed in Japan. I mean, Astroboy's their Superman. I wouldn't blame them if they made a CG Superman anime as revenge where Supes was born from kryptonite. xD Hehe, actually, I'd like to see that.

i got the movie from my library the other day The whole Tobio death thing was more or less wtf....I can see why they changed it from the original idea of a young boy driving a car...but was that the best they could come up with? It was awkward how he just more or less vanishes leaving only a hat... on other notes I fond the extra robots rather stupid annoying (you know the ones I mean....) I guess it was a sad attempt to make the movie more 'kid friendly'?
Over all it wasn't that good but better then some other American made cg movies...like cloudy with a chance of meatballs ans space chimps....ugh....I couldn't even finish space chimps....

Yeah... I saw it awhile back (So I don't recall a few things, forgive me).
I think if you were to ignore the original story, it was a cute movie. But I think it was too kid-friendly, but unfortunately American children are too sheltered now-a-days and since it was aimed for the American audience, they had no other route to go. (I watched the Guyver OVA at 4 years old, as well as played all 3 of the games that started to make video games have to have a rating system, I came out fine >.>)
I think Tezuka would have disowned this movie as one of his creations, but possibly say it was ok as its own film (I don't know, I'm not Tezuka.) I just say this because it seemed like Tezuka always wanted all the characters to stay in character for his shows even if the story had to change a bit. It didn't seem like anyone was in proper character at all, Tenma not being insane kinda bugged me ._. I kinda wished Astro was a bit more childish since he wasn't supposed to be Toby, but a "newborn", but I understand for the choice of story they decided to go with, they had to give him Toby's "memories" and "personality", so that people didn't think he was an idiot and he probably wouldn't have the love interest either...
Now that I think about it, that movie felt like a mix of: Astro Boy, Metropolis, and Wonder Project J (which is a video game).
