Okay, so I know this may be a little offensive to some of you, but seriously, BANDAI ENT. LITERALLY RUINED BLACK JACK! Here are some of the reasons why:
Number 1. Poor selection of Voice Actors. For one thing, I think WE ALL KNOW that the English voice cast were very unexperienced and had little talent. Black Jack's voice was generic, wooden, and slow. Seriously, the voice actor had no emotion what so ever. It's like he didn't even try to act it out. Oh, and how could they! They replaced Black Jack's *cough* Sexy Japanese voice*cough* with some ugly old man sounding voice! This makes me very mad! Let's get to Pinoko. Okay, so this I have to let out. PINOKO'S ENGLISH VOICE SOUNDED LIKE A MAN! Yes, I said it. Not only did Pinoko's english voice was wooden and generic, but it also sounded a little boyish. (And sometimes manish for that matter.) I also did not like. The voices also did not seem to match the characters too well either.
Number.2 Poor Editing and Tracks. The editing was kinda off. The words did not match the mouths at times and was a little slow. The voice tracks sounded a bit muffled and kinda hurted my ears a bit. Though, The Japanese version was pleasent and a joy to listen to!
Number.3 Low funeded English dub company and unpopular voice actors. Bandai ent. is a poorly funded company. I think they're english company even went bankrupt and shut down! The voice actors are un heard of and unpopular to the community. Only one voice actor is known in the english dubs.
Actually, once I've watched a couple minutes of the movie (Yes, it was soo bad, that I had to stop in like after 5 min. of the movie had gone by.) I got a bit upset by all of this and it seems like Americans don't even care about Osamu Tezuka's works. That made me very upset, so I abandoned and ignored Black Jack for a few days, until I got out of my depression.
So, yeah. For me, The English dubs of Black Jack were bad, bad, BAD! But, as for the Original Japanese Version, I'd have to say this:
Original Japanese dubs are better, always will be. Nothing can be better than it. Original Japanese dub for the win!
Sorry if this offends some of you. But, it's true and I really get upset when I hear those Nasty Bandai ent. (<America btw.) getting they're grubby hands on them, Black Jack English dubs. Yes, so the BJ OVA english dubs are a complete No, No for me.
I am not saying anything more. I just had to let off a bit of steam there. That is all.
